KPMG LLP is the UK member of the international KPMG network of professional services firms, providing audit, tax, and advisory services to a wide variety of clients. The OGC Commercial team is part of the UK Office of General Counsel, supporting client-facing teams and activities with legal expertise, particularly in technology-driven offerings.
Role Overview
We are seeking a qualified lawyer with approximately 7+ years post-qualification experience (PQE) to join our OGC Commercial team. The role is focused on supporting KPMG across its core capabilities (advisory, audit, tax and legal) across a diverse client base from a range of industries.
The role places a particular emphasis on technology-driven client offerings such as, SaaS licences, use of third party IP and AI. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engagement teams and subject matter experts, offering guidance to partners and senior stakeholders on a broad spectrum of legal, risk and commercial matters.
Our work is frequently conducted against a background of time pressure and with clients whose legal and procurement teams are focussed on securing the greatest advantages they can achieve. As a result good drafting and negotiating skills are key requirements, together with good time and task management.
The OGC Commercial team deals with high volumes of requests. The successful candidate will need to work well under pressure, leverage the expertise of colleagues and be able to analyse complicated issues requiring input from more than one area of expertise. The role also involves acting as an escalation point for more junior colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex agreements, including technology related agreements and master services agreements.
- Supporting the development of KPMG’s technology-based client offerings (including SaaS and AI solutions). This includes advising on the legal and risk aspects of new products and tools and drafting appropriate terms of use.
- Advising on commercial, risk and contractual issues within a complex business environment.
- Providing ad hoc support on RFPs, engagement letters and other contractual documents.
- Acting as an escalation point for junior colleagues and supporting their development.
- Producing templates and guidance notes and delivering training to business teams.
- Collaborating effectively with colleagues in the UK and offshore.
- Managing a demanding workload and delivering high-quality work under pressure.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Demonstratable experience in commercial law and technology matters (experience working for a professional services firm is beneficial, but not essential).
- Strong negotiating skills and experience drafting and negotiating complex, multi-jurisdictional master services agreements and technology-related contracts,
- Strong commercial awareness and effective risk management skills.
- Ability to provide pragmatic, solution-oriented advice on complex legal and regulatory issues.
- Experience advising in respect of AI matters is beneficial, but not essential (provided the candidate is willing to learn and upskill).
- Experience working within regulated environments is beneficial.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to build relationships and act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders.
